Dubai is growing at a rapid pace.Known for it’s incredible vision in architectural design, the city draws in up to 15 million visitors per year. There are a multitude of things to do in Dubai but be sure to get out and see the desert also.

Once a fishing village, Dubai came to great wealth once oil was discovered in 1966. The first exports started in 1969. The rest is history.

Best Experiences in Dubai

Burj Khalifa

What a staggering vision. From outside the Burj Khalifa looking up.

The Star Attraction and currently the “tallest building in the world”, the Burj Khalifa is the king of mega structures. This sky scraper stands at 828 metres tall with 163 floors.

There are observation decks on levels 124,125 and 148.

Made up of hotels, residential apartments, offices, communication and observation.

Head up to level 122 to At.Mosphere lounge for drinks, dinner or high tea.

Dubai Fountain

Best viewed during the evening for the full effect.

Dubai prides itself on being the biggest and best at so many things. The Dubai Fountain is the worlds tallest performing fountain. Situated on the 30 acre Burj Lake, visitors flock here everyday to see the dazzling display of water, lights and music.

Many believe the Dubai Fountain has out done the equally impressive Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Take the Lake ride or board walk and get an even closer look.

The Burj El Arab

on the beach looking toward burj el arab
Wlaking to the Burj El Arab was challenging in the soaring temperatures.

Designed to resemble the sail of a yacht, many will recognize the Burj El Arab instantly. It is an iconic symbol of the city.

This luxury hotel sits on an artificially made island off Jumeirah beach. It’s construction alone is well worth hearing about.

Though you cannot enter as a visitor, you can get in as a guest. So making a reservation at one of the restaurants, bars or cafes is required. Can you think of of better place to have dinner in Dubai.

Of course if you have a couple of thousand dollars to splurge for one night, you can reserve a room. Let me know how it was!!

Dubai Mall

Check out the Aquarium inside Dubai Mall

At some stage you are going to need to step out of the heat. Dubai gets incredibly hot and you’ll no doubt be desperate for air conditioning. Head for the Dubai Mall.

Rated the second largest mall in the world (by land mass) the Dubai Mall houses more than 1200 stores and services.

Many famous high end shops are found here as well as local and international brands.

if shopping is not your thing the mall has an Aquarium, Kidzania, ice rink and Airbus 380 simulator.

Ski Dubai

who would have thought of Skiing in Dubai.

Yes that’s right, an indoor snow park.

Located in the Mall of the Emirates, visitors can get their cold weather gear on and head out on the snow field.

Only at Ski Dubai.

Families have the chance to ski, snowboard, toboggan and zip line throughout the park.Other attractions include the Penguin Encounter, Zorbing and ice cave at this winter wonderland.

Dubai Gold Souk

shopping for gold
admiring the many pieces.

Located in the business district of Deira, visitors can reach it easily by public train.

Made up of over 380 retailers, the souk is mostly jewellery shops.

If you are on the hunt for something special for yourself or a loved one, this is a good place to go.

I was lucky enough to be gifted a  gorgeous diamond and tanzanite ring.

Sellers will weigh each piece in front of you.. Be sure to negotiate the price but this isn’t a back and forth over the top haggling type place. You can certainly try though.

Desert Safari

things to do in Dubai
Nothing like a wild ride through the desert.

Head out of town on a desert safari for a day of thrills and dune bashing in your four wheel drive jeeps.

Highlights include a stop for some quad biking before hitting the sand dunes. The ride is rough so take travel sickness medication if you are easily effected. It’s only short lived but and it depends on how adventurous your tour guide is.

Finish the day with dinner and show of cultural aspects such as belly dancing.

Atlantis Water Park

things to do in Dubai
If the water park is too much excitement, you can hit the beach.Get ready for a fun filled day of rides, slides and interactive encounters.

The Atlantis Water Park is another great way to beat the heat . Temperatures in the city can reach over 50 Celsius. The park is part of Atlantis Hotel Resort.

There are an array of activities to suit all ages groups, not to mention nerves.

The Tower of Poseiden Slides and Tower of Neptune Rides requires all participants be over 1.2 metres in height.
